Svinør’s days of glory were in the 18th and 19th centuries. It is considered one of the best preserved and most beautiful outports in southern Norway. This was a place where shipowners and captains lived, and the oldest houses can be dated back to the late 17th century. Svinør had its own dock, customs house and shipyard. These days no-one lives permanently at Svinør, and in the summer there are mainly holiday makers here. The best way to explore Svinør is by boat, but you will also get a good impression of it from Åvik, the village on the mainland opposite it. Take Route 460 to Lindesnes Lighthouse and turn off towards Åvik.
