I det vestlige Norge skærer de smalle fjorde sig langt ind i landet, omgivet af stejle fjelde med brusende vandfald og gletsjere. Her er spændende arkitektur og madoplevelser til at mætte selv den mest sultne gæst.

Landskabet i Vestlandet blev skabt af de forskellige istiders hærgen, og har ikke ændret sig væsentligt siden de første mennesker slog sig ned i området. Her hersker sæler og ørne, mens hvaler og fisk sørger for liv under vandet.

Her i det vestligste Norge er der alt, fra fjerne skær til nogle af landets største byer. Få minutters kørsel bringer dig fra byens støj til uberørte naturområder og de store ødemarker.

Langs fjordsiderne ligger der små samfund som perler på en snor, hver med sine egne karakteristika og afspejlende de lokale traditioner og områdets muligheder.

I mange af landsdelens frodige dale dyrkes der frugt på livet løs, og æbler, pærer, kirsebær og jordbær er både en populær og almindelig afgrøde. Vildt, fisk og lokalt opdrættet fårekød er basisingredienser i mange egnsretter fra fjordenes Norge.

    Det unikke landskab giver unikke muligheder for ting at foretage sig i Fjord Norge.

    Tag turen fra landsbyerne i fjordenes inderste dele til det åbne hav helt ude ved vestkysten og dets mange øer og skær, med gamle bebyggelser og fiskerhytter. Eller tag toget fra Bergen og op på fjeldet, eller sejl nordpå langs kysten – helt op til det arktiske Norge, hvis du vil.

    Eller bliv ved fjordene, der danner de naturlige rammer for alskens vandbaseret leg. Fiskeri, kajakpadling, friluftscamping eller dykning. Der er mange krinkelkroge med roligt vand at udforske.

    Vintrene i området er milde, og som oftest forbliver havnene isfri. Længere inde i landet er det en anden historie, med masser af sne og muligheder for at have det sjovt både med og uden ski.

    Til lands er det bare at slå dig løs – til fods, i bilen eller på cyklen. Følg de moderne landeveje, de ældgamle handelsruter eller Rallarvegen, og lad selve rejsen være målet i sig selv.

    Noget af Norges mest fremtrædende arkitektur finder du i Vestlandet. Her ligger mange af de prisvindende nationale turistveje, for eksempel Atlanterhavsvejen og Trollstigen, der kombinerer den allerede spektakulære natur med markante arkitekturløsninger og stilfuldt design.     Et nyt vartegn for landsdelen er kirken i Knarvik, lidt nord for Bergen – en dramatisk og dragende, men dog fredfyldt trækirke. Andre bemærkelsesværdige bygninger er Juvet Landskapshotel i Geiranger og Træet i Bergen, der med sine 51 meter er det højeste træhus i verden.

    Regionens mange festivaler bør også nævnes, for eksempel Bergen International Festival (klassisk musik, dans og teater), Gladmat i Stavanger og Haugesund Internationale Filmfestival.
